Bully expert to speak:

National bullying expert and best selling author Jodee Blanco will speak to students at Antioch Upper Grade School as part of a free program from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2. Blanco will deliver her anti-bullying program, "It's NOT Just Joking Around!" during the session at the school, 800 Highview Drive, Antioch. The highlight of the visit will be a parent/family seminar open to the public. Families are encouraged to attend and can speak with Blanco after the presentation. More than half a million students have participated in Blanco's anti-bullying program, and her story has drawn national attention. Call (847) 838-8301.

Polar plunge:

Fox Lake officials are looking for people interested in jumping into the frozen Nippersink Lake during the village's annual Fox Lake Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics of Illinois. Registration for the event is on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m., with the plunge beginning at 1 p.m. The cost of the event is free for people willing to jump into the water, but $5 for spectators.
