MANILA, Philippines - According to the IT-BPO Roadmap of Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), jobs generated by business process outsourcing companies (BPOs) and contact centers in the Philippines could increase to 1.3 million, assuming the country strengthens the public-private partnership and improves the quantity and quality of our talent supply. The latter is critically important, especially since BPOs have earned a reputation for providing highly compensated jobs, but not necessarily long-term careers.The leadership team at TELUS International Philippines (TIP), a leading provider of customer care solutions, believes in fostering a culture of long-term career employment within the BPO industry. "At TIP, a job as an agent can be just the beginning of a rewarding career within our company," says TIP President Javier Infante. "We provide career opportunities to motivated, deserving applicants."Some see working in a call center as a stepping-stone to industries outside BPOs, and not as a long-term career. Opportunities within the industry, such as high-value jobs in IT and knowledge process outsourcing, as well as communications, leadership, and analyst roles, are not always readily apparent. That can be the challenge outsourcing companies like TIP face. According to Infante, one of their main challenges is ensuring team members feel they are progressing significantly in their careers, especially in light of increasing competition, the perception of jobs available in the industry, and the role of their influencers on their decisions. "Our task is to communicate opportunities to our team members, encourage them to find meaning in their work, and provide activities that promote personal growth."To encourage its team members to excel, TIP organizes recreational activities, team building events and outings on a regular basis. …
