Philippines-Indonesia Merger on Tourism Promotion Eyed

CEBU CITY, Philippines - The Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency, Kristiarto S. Legowo, has indicated that the Indonesian government is bent on partnering with tourism stakeholders in the Philippines to initiate efforts that would jointly promote tourism in both countries.Legowo, who was in Cebu recently to join in the seminar, "Strengthening Economic Cooperation Between Indonesia and the Philippines," expressed his desire for the Indonesian and Philippine governments to formulate an effective tourism campaign that would market both countries as leisure destinations in Asia."Indonesia and the Philippines can complement instead of compete in attracting tourists," he said. "Both countries have archipelagic terrains, so a joint promotion is feasible if we all want to bring more tourists, especially from Europe."Legowo further said that both countries could bank on such renowned world-class beach destinations such as Bali in Indonesia, and Boracay, Cebu, Bohol, and Palawan in the Philippines.He said Indonesian tourism stakeholders have been inviting Filipino travel operators to visit Indonesia in order to forge linkages with travel agents there for joint promotion. …
