3am: My day begins early as I am woken up by my son, Sam, who struggles to sleep more than a few hours due to his autism. Get up and begin the chaos that is getting Sam ready for school. School minibus collects him at 8am, I say a quick goodbye to my husband Peter and then head towards the joy that is the M62 at rush-hour.

9am: Arrive at the office and catch up with Lucinda, our marketing executive, and Sandra, the finance manager, about the day ahead. Check and respond to a few emails and check charity Facebook/ Twitter pages.

9.15am: Liaise with one of our scientists at Bangor University and chat about the acceptance of a cheque from a local youth group. They have been very generous with their time, but we still need more donations from the public to keep on funding research into the causes of cancer.

9.30am: Phone the chairman to discuss a forthcoming meeting with Liverpool University and the recent funding awarded by our Scientific Committee at the Liverpool Cancer Research Centre. 10am: Meeting with Lucinda to plan for the forthcoming production of the annual report. The design of the report is all done in-house and needs to be carefully mapped out. Arrange to contact our researchers in Lancaster, Liverpool and Bangor Universities to request reports on their NWCRF-funded projects. Discuss sponsorship opportunities for the report. 12.15pm: Volunteers from our Llanfairfechan and Aber Committee call into the office to collect flyers and posters for their Art Auction and have a quick catch-up about events being arranged across our region by the other committees and the AGM being planned for May. …
