BUTUAN CITY - After a long wait, the Caraga Region can now fully and economically move following the appointment by President Aquino of a new chairman of the region's powerful development body, the Regional Development Council and (RDC).

The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) officially informed all local government unit officials, and all regional directors of all line agencies of the government in the region Tuesday about the appointment of Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas.

Before joining politics, Matugas was the former regional director of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Regions 8 and 13. (Mike U. Crismundo)

Rice subsidy for indigents

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (PNA) - Some 169,827 poor fisherfolk and farmers from various parts of Region 12 are set to receive rice subsidies as part of the national government's intervention against the worsening impact of the continuing oil price increases in the country.

Bai Zorahayda Taha, Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 12 director, said the move was mainly aimed at minimizing the effects of the increases in oil prices, which has triggered drastic movements in the prices of some basic goods as well as public transportation fares.

Dolphin rescued off Tagum city

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (PNA) - Workers of the City Agriculture Office (CAGRO) here and Bantay Dagat residents of Barangay Liboganon rescued an eight-foot long Risso's dolphin that beached in the shallow waters of the area Saturday after it was attacked by a shark.

George Grandea, CAGRO-Tagum City head, said it is the dolphin's instinct to seek shallow waters as refuge when attacked by other sea creatures. …
