THE Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI) was established in 2008 to help industry develop new low carbon products, technologies, services and employment.

The LCRI Convergence Energy Programme is a research, development and innovation (RD&I) programme funded through the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO). The programme aims for long-term economic growth and the creation of employment opportunities for Wales.

The LCRI Programme works with enterprises, including the SME sector in particular, to deliver industry relevant new knowledge and technologies that will provide business opportunities and help Wales deliver on its low carbon agenda.

The key elements of the LCRI Convergence Energy Programme are: hydrogen technologies; large scale power generation; marine energy; solar photovoltaics; low carbon built environment; scenario modelling; Wales energy sector training (WEST); and environmental sustainability and equal opportunities.
