Ochoa Named New Anti-Crime Czar

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has designated Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. as new head of the revitalized Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) in concurrent capacity.

In Executive Order No. 46, the PAOCC would intensify efforts in investigating and prosecuting crime syndicates and their protectors in government.

Prior to Ochoa's designation, the President used to head the commission mandated to carry out a master plan against criminality.

"A steadfast, strong-minded, and unwavering campaign to eradicate organized crime, along with the graft and corruption it breeds, are among the priorities of this administration," the order read.

"The reorganization and strengthening of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) is imperative to substantiate and generate results in the fight to eliminate corrupt practices," it added.

Members of the PAOCC commission are Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario, Armed Forces chief Eduardo Oban, Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo, National Security Adviser Cesar Garcia, National Bureau of Investigation Director Magtanggol Gatdula, and Philippine Center for Transnational Crime (PCTC) Executive Director Felizardo Serapio Jr. …
