India & Nepal Including Mt. Everest, the Ganges & Varanasi

Our wonderful tour encompasses the very best that Northern India and Nepal have to offer, from fascinating Delhi and the Taj Mahal to the holy Ganges at Varanasi, to intriguing Kathmandu, stunning Mt. Everest and an elephant-back safari in Chitwan National Park.

Day 1 Fly to Delhi.

Day 2 Transfer to the five-star Hilton hotel for one night with breakfast. Our tour of New Delhi includes the Presidential Palace (formerly the Viceroy's residence), the rajpath, India Gate, the Parliament building, the 12th century Qutub Minaret - the tallest stone-built tower in India, and Humayun's tomb.

Day 3 A tour of Old Delhi takes you to Gandhi's memorial, the raj Ghat. We also visit the red Fort and one of Asia's largest mosques, the Jama Masjid. We then drive to Agra for two nights with breakfast at the four-star Taj Gateway hotel. Day 4 Wake early to catch the sunrise over the Taj Mahal, undisputedly one of the world's most beautiful buildings. In the soft morning light, as the mist rises from the Yamuna river, it seems to float like a mirage. You also visit the immense Agra Fort, the seat of the vast Moghul Empire. Day 5 Leaving by train to Jhansi, we continue by coach to nearby Orchha. Surrounded by jungles, this remarkable medieval town is an architectural gem. Discover the cenotaphs built by its rulers and marvel at the Orchha Fort complex. After lunch we drive to the small town of Khajuraho for a stay at the four-star hotel Taj Chandela with breakfast.

Day 6 We visit some of Khajuraho's 12th century temples, a uNESCO World Heritage Site. Their carved figures illustrate sensuous poses in such high relief that you can actually distinguish their jewellery. You then fly to Varanasi. Nestling on the river Ganges, the old city is a labyrinth of tangled alleys, through which we take an exciting rickshaw ride to the river. The banks are lined with bathing 'ghats' were the faithful wash themselves in the holy waters. Boarding a small boat you explore this incredible waterfront. We stay two nights, with breakfast, at the four-star Taj Gateway hotel.

Day 7 After a morning boat ride, you tour the city. This afternoon we visit nearby Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon.

Day 8 Fly to Kathmandu in Nepal. …
