ENGLAND'S cricketers and fans were jubilant last night as the team triumphed over India to become the best in the world.

They replaced India at the top of the world Test rankings by beating them by an innings and 242 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham, giving them an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.

The crowd, many in fancy dress, were ecstatic as they sang and danced in the stands.

India made just 224 in their first innings before England broke records on their way to a massive 710 for seven declared. Batsman Alastair Cook scored 294 runs in 13 hours, the highest total by an Englishman at Edgbaston.

England then sealed victory by bowling India out in their second innings yesterday for 244.

Victory was a glorious moment for the England team, who won the Ashes in Australia at the start of the year and have triumphed in eight out of their past ten Test series.
