BEST TRAVELOGUE A South American Journey, 8pm, BBC2 AS Jonathan Dimbleby reaches the final stage of his trek through South America, this third episode finds him in Brazil. The largest country on the continent and the seventh richest economy in the world (there's a lot of gold), Brazil is now at a critical point. How will this 'emerging giant' manage to establish its world identity? BEST DRAMA Downton Abbey, 9pm, UTV DESPITE the uproar about the relentless ad breaks, this second series of the early-20th-century drama seems to be confirming its status as a TV phenomenon. This third episode sees O'Brien up to her usual tricks, encouraging Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) to enlist Thomas to manage the hospital. TV3 are showing the series a week behind (10.15pm).

BEST DOCUMENTARY Cogar, 9.30pm, TG4 THE late Tom Clancy may be most famous now as a member of folk group The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, but Tom was also a stage and screen actor who had parts in hit TV shows like Little House On The Prairie and Starsky And Hutch, as well as films The Killer Elite and Swashbuckler.
