Majority of Consumers Believe Being 'Green' Can Save Them Money; SOLAR PANELS SEEN AS GOOD WAY TO CUT ENERGY BILLS

ALTHOUGH nearly six in ten people (59%) think being "green" can save money, more than one in ten (13%) worry it's too expensive, according to research from One in ten (11%) consumers think that the extra expense of energy efficiency products is a waste of money because they're not confident of any savings.

Despite a third of consumers(37%) thinking that solar panels are only for those who can afford to be green, two thirds (69%) of the nation believe they are a good way to cut energy bills.

When it comes to being energy efficient 21 million people in the UK (44%) believe it's more important to save money than the environment (23%).

With energy bills having rocketed by pounds 224 within a year, consumers are continually looking for new ways to cut back and save.

However while being more energy efficient could help people to turn the clock back on rising energy bills, the research by - the independent price comparison and switching service - reveals that consumers are still to be convinced of the value of going "green".

Worries about the costs of being green are putting people off buying energy efficient products. One in ten consumers (11%) think that energy efficient products are more expensive and that the extra expense isn't worth it as they aren't confident of the savings - even though they cost less to run.

However, consumers are embracing some green attitudes to help make their homes more energy efficient and save money on their bills and surprisingly, despite misconceptions that they are unsightly home additions, consumers are actually giving solar panels a thumbs up. …
