Civil Engineering Weekend and Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Convention

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE) celebrates Civil Engineering Week this year on November 14-18, 2011, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 272 issued on October 11, 2011.

The weeklong observance is in conjunction with the 37th PICE National Convention, which will be held November 17-19, 2011, in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, with the theme "PICE at the CREST for Competitiveness, Resilience, and Transparency.'' The PICE is the professional organization of over 68,495 registered civil engineers in 97 chapters and some 15,135 civil engineering students in 166 student chapters throughout the country.

The convention will feature technical and plenary sessions, international roundtable discussions on strategies to cope with extreme natural events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and cyclones, exhibits, fellowships, election of the 2012 National Board of Directors, and the annual student program.

There will be special lectures on PICE's research study on the recent Japan Earthquake and on civil engineers as entrepreneurs. Technical sessions will discuss construction management consulting services, project scheduling and S-curves, development of vulnerability curves of key building types in Iloilo City, effects of concrete hollow blocks masonry properties, object-oriented programming for design of reinforcement concrete footings, reliability and design of rainwater harvesting systems for Northern Mindanao, design and construction of urban storm water management system, and analysis of beach erosion around coastal groins and its engineering solution. …
