Allen Sticks at It despite Hearn Row; Snooker

MARK ALLEN arrived at his post-match press conference with sticky tape over his mouth after a day in which his row with Barry Hearn escalated and he cruised into the quarter-finals of the UK Championship.

Allen beat Ali Carter 6-2 to book his place in the last eight, after which he drew a laugh from journalists by sitting in silence for 15 seconds before again waxing lyrical about his row with the World Snooker chairman.

Referring to his previous comments about Hearn, in which he accused him of reneging on promises and looking to 'make money for himself', Allen said: 'I don't think I said too much out of line. Obviously I swore, which is bang out of order and I apologise again for that, but I still stand by the rest of the things I said.

'I think there's a lot of truth in the comments that I made. I've had lots of criticism over the years and I'm not going to change that now just because I'm outspoken and speak my mind. …
