Students Increase Safety Awareness in Tilt

MANILA, Philippines - One Meralco Foundation, in collaboration with Philippine Red Cross - Rizal Chapter, recently held the Youth First Aid Challenge, a competition promoting safety awareness to students under the Red Cross Youth program.

Apart from added knowledge and skills, participants also learned leadership skills, and improved their character and discipline.

Safety awareness is one of the advocacies of One Meralco Foundation, Meralco's new corporate foundation, under its Disaster Relief and Emergency Preparedness pillar. Other projects under this pillar are relief operations and disaster preparedness planning initiatives.

Youth teams that participated in the pilot implementation of the competition are the Junior and Senior Red Cross Youth Councils of Makati, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Muntinlupa, Marikina, Pasig City-Pateros, West Rizal, East Rizal, Antipolo, and Las Pinas. Problems and scenarios in the competition proper were prepared by the Philippine Red Cross - Rizal Chapter Safety Services. Emerging as champions are the Red Cross youth teams from Makati (elementary) and Antipolo (high school), particularly from Fort Bonifacio Elementary School and La Salle College Antipolo, respectively.
