Introductory Computer Basics Classes for Adults Offered at MCC

In an effort to meet the noncredit computer training needs of McHenry County residents, McHenry County College's Workforce, Community and Business Program Department offers the Silver Series that features two different programs -- "Welcome to the World of Computers" and "Welcome to Microsoft Office 2010."

The Silver Series is hands-on computer training and is the perfect introduction to computers for older adults, dislocated workers and others with little to no previous computer experience. The coursework provides a step-by-step approach for beginners, giving real life examples that ensures student success.

The following Silver Series classes are accepting registration:

Welcome to the World of Computers: 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 9, to Feb. 6. This five-session course starts with the basics of the Windows operating system, the Internet, email basics, and word processing using Microsoft Word 2010. Introduces basic navigation such as mousing, the cursor, the desktop, and the taskbar. The fundamentals of word processing are covered using Word 2010, followed by basic file browsing and file management. Web browsing and web basics are explained. The course ends with a discussion of webmail, email attachments, and email security, including scams, phishing, and spam. Cost is $325. Use course ID NTC S15 004 when registering.

Welcome to Microsoft Office 2010: 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 13. This is an uncomplicated way to learn how to use Office 2010 for beginners. The five-week course presents a gentle introduction to the Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and covers the Windows operating system.

This course reinforces learning with plenty of illustrations and practical, hands-on projects and exercises. …
