Dundee Lions Get Kudos for Breakfast

Article excerpt

The Dundee Township Lions Club received a plaque of appreciation from West Dundee this week for its efforts to make sure more than 300 people went to the Shop with a Cop event on a full stomach.

Shop with a Cop pairs needy children from Dundee Township with a local police officer to do holiday shopping at Walmart cops from Carpentersville, Gilberts, the Dundees, Pingree Grove and Sleepy Hollow are all involved.

But before everyone goes on the shopping spree, they sit down to a large breakfast.

In 2011, the vendor that was supposed to put on the breakfast pulled out two weeks before the event.

Thats when the Dundee Lions Club stepped in to secure, pay for and cook the food for the annual breakfast.

The club enjoyed it so much they put it together last year as well.

West Dundee Police Sgt. Steven Fletter, who runs the departments Shop with a Cop program, presented the plaque to the Dundee Lions Club. One of the programs goals is to foster positive relationships between local law enforcement authorities and the children.

The Dundee Lions Club agrees with that mission.

"We do it because its right, and everything goes back to the community," Dundee Lions Club President Gene Tester told the village board. "This is an honor to receive this from you."
