Stella Louise Pflederer Stella Louise (Van der Zwalm) Pflederer passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012. Stella was born May 9, 1921, in Geneva, IL, the first of three daughters of Edmund and Cecilia Van der Zwalm, who were living in St. Charles, IL, at that time. After finishing school at St. Charles High School in 1939, she worked as an operator for the phone company. When her future husband, Lyle, was assigned by the Army Air Corps to Seymour Johnson Field in Goldsboro, NC, she moved there and was married on Dec. 9, 1942. She was a voracious reader, and an avid letter writer. Beginning with her sophomore year in high school, she engaged a long line of pen pals in such countries as South Africa, England, Argentina, Sweden, Germany, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. In two cases, when the overseas correspondent passed away. the letter writing continued with the daughter. This was a testament to her loyalty and of course the joy her writings brought to so many people. She and Lyle were able to travel extensively, mostly within the US until Lyle's retirement, but later their travel expanded to overseas. During some of these trips, she was able to visit face to face with her pen pals. …
