HUHNE'S BEEN IN PRISON BEFORE; Held in Greek Jail over Car Crash as Teenager

DISGRACED Chris Huhne has done time over an alleged driving offence before - in a Greek prison.

The former Cabinet minister shared a cell with a murderer when arrested over a car crash while on holiday as a teenager.

Huhne, 58, was held on remand for three days before being cleared and freed 40 years ago.

The ex-MP talked of the experience before he was jailed on Monday for getting Greek ex-wife Vicky Pryce to take his speeding points and lying about it.

Huhne said: "I visited prisons as Shadow Home Secretary. And I had a brief experience many, many years ago of being locked up in a foreign prison.

"I was involved in a car crash (vehicles seem to have something in my life) and I was on remand for a period, not knowing when I would be let out."

The former Energy Secretary and his ex-wife were both handed eight month sentences for perverting the course of justice.

The fallen Lib Dem leadership contender is already planning a reinvention when he is released.

The former journalist, City slicker and politician said: "I've had three careers and I will have to find a fourth."

But Euro MP Chris Davies, who served alongside Huhne in Brussels, said he would find it hard to rehabilitate himself.

He said: "The difficulty with Chris of course is that he's so much in the public spotlight. …
