Celebration: United Arab Emirates National Day

Today is the National Day of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which commemorates the formation of seven emirates federation (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain) into one country on December 2, 1971. UAE is a constitutional monarchy with a Presidential system of government. The UAE has the worlds sixth largest oil reserves and possesses one of the most developed economies in the Middle East. It is currently the 36th largest economy at market exchange rates, and is one of the richest countries in the world by per capita Gross Domestic Product. Among countries in the Asian continent, it has a high Human Development Index. The UAE is a founding member of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and a member state of the Arab League. It is also a member of the United Nations, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Counties, and the World Trade Organization.
