Your Future: Sixth of the Best

Article excerpt

For those collecting GCSE results this summer there is a wide range of options and directions available: work, training and education being just some of the choices.

If you are interested in continuing education there are again a number of options: stay on at school, go to a further education college or attend a sixth form college.

Sixth form colleges specialise in education for school leavers and are experts in teaching A levels, GNVQ and GCSE for 16 to 19-year-olds.

There are three sixth form colleges in Birmingham - Josiah Mason College, Joseph Chamberlain College and Cadbury College. All three colleges have an excellent record of success in A level results. This is partly due to the high level of support systems that sixth form colleges offer their students.

Sixth form colleges offer students the opportunity to study in an adult environment, and take responsibility for their own learning. The facilities within the Colleges are also geared to providing school leavers with every opportunity to be successful in either gaining entrance to university, or employment.

For example, at Josiah Mason College there are specialist facilities for different course areas - a media suite including radio station and digital editing facilities, a dance/drama studio, an art and design studio and science and IT laboratories.

There are also excellent facilities available for all students to take advantage of, including a library, an IT learning centre which has Internet access, a careers centre, subject support rooms and a counsellor.

At JMC we are also lucky to have an on-site leisure centre which is used during the day by students on sports courses and those who wish to take part in out-of-lesson activities.

If you would like to enrol at JMC please call the College, or come along to JMC after September 1.

Or if you would like more information and have an informal chat about your options call the College on 0121 382 4757.
