Article excerpt

Unique to the Schaumburg Township District Library are its musical - and sometimes magical - performances.

While the adage "silence is golden" still applies to certain areas of the library, particularly in the reference and adult fiction areas, music and laughter can occasionally be heard floating through the Audiovisual Department.

Intent on pleasing a broad range of entertainment interests, the AV Department schedules a diverse selection of performers. Performances are always free and no registration is necessary.

The following shows are scheduled for May and June.

- At 7 p.m. on Thursday flutist Erica Yoneyama and violist Laron Washington will perform duets and solo selections from several musicals, including "Cats," "Phantom of the Opera" and "Miss Saigon." Their performance will also include some traditional Japanese songs as well as pieces from composers such as Hansen, Vivaldi and Godard.

- Flutist Vanessa Jayne and cellist Jennifer Wickett will perform in duet at 7 p.m. on May 22. Their lively and interactive music will include classical, folk, jazz and contemporary selections.

- Pianists Mary Rose Ramos and Ann Srodulski will be the featured entertainment at 7 p.m. June 1. These two talented musicians will entertain the audience with a variety of selections. Both are high school students and reside in the township. …
