Pardo Named CEAP's 'Man of Year'

Finance Secretary Jose Trinidad Pardo has been declared ''Man of the Year'' by the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), an organization of 1,173 Catholic schools all over the country.

Earlier awardees were former President Corazon Aquino, Jaime Cardinal Sin, and Vice President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The CEAP singled out Pardo as one of the most diligent and dedicated of the President's men, aside from being an exemplary Catholic leader.

An acknowledged pillar of the business sector before he joined the government, Pardo is known for his visionary style of management best exemplified by his bringing in of the Wendy's hamburger store chain and the 7-11 convenience store chain franchise at the height of the 1983 political crisis.

A seasoned businessman, Pardo was involved in many business ventures. He was president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1992.

As a young technocrat and forerunner of the productivity movement, Pardo was among the 1972 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM),an honor which he shared with then San Juan Mayor Joseph Estrada, business leader and now Executive SecretaryRonnie Zamora, Manuel Duldulao, and other awardees. …
