Township plans to host health-care screenings

The Township of Schaumburg's Senior Services Department will host a community health prevention screening program designed to provide early detection of cardiovascular disease.

The screening program will be held Sept. 22 at the township hall at One Illinois Blvd. in Hoffman Estates. Screenings will be conducted by We Care Preventive Health Screenings, which works in tandem with community sponsors to bring health screenings, education and prevention awareness to the community.

Appointments are necessary. For more information on the screening, call We Care at (800) 253-1181.

Little City seeking volunteers for annual Smiles Tag Day

Volunteers are needed for Little City Foundation's 26th annual Smiles Tag Days, which will be held this year Oct. 5-7. About 1,000 volunteers are needed to staff more than 50 Chicago area communities. Smiles taggers ask for donations and in return give donors a sheet of Little City Foundation's famous yellow Smiles stickers. In the interest of safety, most of the tagging spots are at shopping malls, stores and plazas rather than street intersections. Taggers will be stationed in front of all Dominicks and Jewel stores. Little City Foundation, located in unincorporated Palatine, provides services for children and adults with developmental challenges such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, epilepsy, visual and hearing challenges and emotional disturbances. Services include housing, employment, recreation, foster care, adoption, home-based support, service coordination, media and studio arts, advocacy and public education. To volunteer or to receive further information, call Linda Carroll at Little City Foundation, (847) 221-7853.
