RUSSELL Kelly and Gavin Arthur were the magnificent sharp-shooting heroes for Linfield as the Blues blasted Glentoran out of the water and out of the Premiership race with a convincing 2-0 Boxing Day Big Two bonanza at Windsor Park.

The clash of the heavyweights was as good as over after 23 minutes. Following 24 year old Kelly's cracker in the 13th minute Linfield made sure of remaining 14 points clear of second placed Coleraine and also leaving arch rivals Glentoran 21 points adrift.

It was a piece of clever goodwill on the part of Linfield stalwart Tony Gorman that resulted in a fantastic festive free kick by 27 year old Arthur.

The left-footer, from 22 yards, gave Glentoran goalkeeper Alan Gough no chance. At first it seemed 30 year old Gorman would take the kick. But Arthur revealed: ''I suggested he let me take this one, and he could have the next. It worked beautifully.
