The 13-year-old Elk Grove Travelers hit the road to Evansville, Ind., July 9 through 11 to compete in the Tri-State Regional of the Super Series Network.

Good defense, pitching, timely hitting and teamwork helped the Travelers to a second-place finish with a 4-2 record against some excellent competition.

In pool play, the Travelers were 3-1, defeating the Memphis Tigers 2-0, the Illinois Blaze 10-6 in a 10-inning battle, and Golfmoor of Evansville 6-5. The Travelers' single loss in pool play was to the East Cobb Mavericks, a very tough team, 14-7.

Out of pool play the Travelers were seeded fourth out of four qualifying teams and were matched in their first game against the No. 1 seed, the Kentucky Tornadoes of Louisville. The Travelers played perhaps their best game against the Tornadoes and came away with a 5-2 victory.

In the championship game the Travelers once again faced the East Cobb Mavericks. The Mavericks won 20-7 despite some late-inning rallies by the Travelers.

The Mavericks will travel to Omaha, Neb., late in July, where they hope to win a national championship. Last summer the Mavericks earned two national championships.
