Bartlett Library gets $4,000 grant to buy foreign language books

The Bartlett Public Library has added a new foreign language fiction collection.

The library applied for a $4,000 grant last fall to begin a collection of adult and juvenile fiction in Spanish, French, German, Latin and Hindi. The purpose of the collection is to provide popular reading materials in native languages and to provide translations of literature to support the high school and junior high foreign language curricula.

The collection consists of about 250 titles, including popular and classic fiction, poetry, drama, folk tales and picture books. Bartlett High School foreign language teachers and the Jain Society assisted librarians in selecting them. The books for adults are in the fiction area near the science fiction collection, and the books for children are on the second level.

The collection may be used by students of foreign languages, native readers and speakers of the languages, and parents who want to introduce their children to stories from around the world. All books circulate for three weeks.

For details on the collection, call the library at (630) 837-2855 or stop by at 800 S. Bartlett Road.
