Hoffman Estates Hires Director of Personnel

James Aydt sent out one resume in 10 years while he was working as personnel director for the village of Skokie.

But one was all it took.

Aydt will take over as human resources management director for the village of Hoffman Estates Oct. 19, officials announced Monday. Aydt was selected from a pool of 70 applicants and five finalists.

"His experience and background match our needs," Village Manager James Norris said. "He has a very outgoing and positive personality, which is paramount to human resources."

The Hoffman Estates position opened in June when Chris Guckenberger left to become director of organizational effectiveness for the city of Naperville. Guckenberger was the third top Hoffman Estates official to leave for Naperville - former village manager Peter Burchard was the first - in an eight-month period.

"It is a bittersweet change," Aydt said. "I've enjoyed my time in Skokie, but I'm looking forward to the growth opportunities in Hoffman Estates."

Skokie is a "land-locked" community and has not experienced the same growth that Hoffman Estates has with the attraction of Sears and Ameritech, he said. …
