Stevenson Reaches Goal with Positive Philosophy

Development rather than wins and losses is the goal each year for Stevenson's junior varsity badminton team.

The Patriots have been successful this season in reaching that objective. They also have done well in wins and losses.

"Our philosophy is to learn and improve," said coach Ed Kositzki, whose team was 6-5 after 11 of its scheduled 13 matches. "We had a fantastic season."

One reason for the good performance by the Patriots was experience by a couple of players.

Susie Steinberg and Seema Joglakar led the group of returning players.

Freshmen Elaine Smikersee, Carrie Schultz, Yoko Higuchi and Michelle Muller earned regular starting assignments in the lineup.

Other Patriots who helped during the season included Kristin DeBruin and Laney Gangware.

Among the highlights of the season was a 9-6 victory over Lake Forest, one of only two other North Suburban Conference schools that had a JV team.
