Special Events Group Ready for Busy Summer

The Mount Prospect Special Events Commission is getting ready for a busy summer season, preparing for two of its big events, the annual "Do-It-Yourself Sousa" concert and the annual Fourth of July parade.

The commission, which Mayor Gerald Farley created after the success of the 75th Anniversary celebration in 1992, is a real feather in Mount Prospect's cap.

In fact, I recently read a letter to the citizenry of Des Plaines in which the city's mayor, Paul Jung, mentioned attending the Annual Shining Stars dinner in our village and being terribly impressed.

He was so impressed that he recently asked the Des Plaines City Council to form its own Special Events Commission.

What is it they say? Imitation is the highest form of flattery!

Anyway, the Special Events Commission's first summer event is the "Do-It-Yourself Sousa" concert, to be held at 2 p.m. June 14 - appropriately, on "Flag Day."
