THE BRIEFS

Stevenson pupils anticipate tomorrow's Career Day

Students at Stevenson Elementary School in Elk Grove Village are gearing up for Career Day Friday. More than 25 volunteers will talk about their careers - including a zoologist, chef, nurse, pilot, travel agent and hotel manager - at several points throughout the day. Students also wrote essays about what they want to be when they grow up.

Roosevelt University gets into archeological groove

Roosevelt University will offer two archaeological experiences - one for elementary and middle-school students and the other for teachers - at its Albert A. Robin campus in Schaumburg this summer.

An archaeology day camp for students in grades four through seven will run daily between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. June 15 through June 19 at the Robin Campus, 1651 McConnor Parkway. The program includes a simulated archaeology dig and a trip to the Field Museum in Chicago. Students also will create an electronic family history using the Internet. The cost is $250, which includes all materials and daily lunches.

An archaeology workshop for teachers will run between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the same dates as the student day camp. "Archaeology for the Classroom" will stress the interdisciplinary nature of archaeology and provide an instructional model teachers can use in their classrooms. The cost is $150 non-credit or $250 for two semester hours of graduate credit.
