Army Pvt. Randy L. Riddle, son of Victoria D. Lombardo of Palatine, has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid, and Army history and traditions.

Riddle is a 1997 graduate of William Fremd High School.

Marine 1st Lt. Ryan R. Gutzwiller, whose wife, Laura, is the daughter of Larry Woodfield of Barrington, recently reported for duty with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Smith, Honolulu.

Gutzwiller joined the Marine Corps in June 1988.

Navy Airman Dundy L. Yap, son of Wilfredo B. and Carmelita L. Yap of Palatine, has completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Indian oceans as well as the Arabian Sea, while aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation.

Yap's ship's mission involved enforcing the no fly-zone over Southern Iraq. Additional responsibilities were in support of the Multinational Interception Operations, which directly enforced U.N. sanctions against Iraq in the Persian Gulf.

Yap joined the Navy in November 1995.

Marine Pvt. Christopher E. Brien, son of Clarence E. and Jacque M. Brien of Palatine, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.

Brien successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. …
