Reformation '97 Conference to Feature Sproul, Carson

"The Authority of the Gospel" will be the theme at the Reformation '97 conference, set Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at College Church in Wheaton. A preconference will be offered Oct. 30.

The conference, sponsored by Reformation & Revival Ministries Inc. in Carol Stream, will feature speakers including R.C. Sproul of Ligonier Ministries, Donald A. Carson of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield and Sinclair Ferguson of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pa.

The main conference starts at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and the Saturday sessions start at 8:30 a.m. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, Seminary and Washington streets.

The preconference, featuring Carson, will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, with the theme, "God's Word to a Culture in Decline."

The main conference sessions will delve into the major questions surrounding the message, power and authority of the gospel.

"I think the theme is about as important as any possible," said John Armstrong, president of Reformation & Revival, who also will speak at the conference.

"There was a battle in the '70s within evangelical Christianity for the authority of the Bible, especially for inerrancy, and I think the battle of the '90s should be the battle for the gospel. …
