Des Plaines Elementary District 62 officials agreed that its students should be continuously educated about railroad crossing safety.

District 62 officials agreed that its teachers should stay vigilant about instructing its students on safety issues in response to a concern board member Jean A. Warren mentioned.

Warren said a parent recently contacted her after she saw two children by the railroad crossing at Mannheim Road and Oakton Street near Iroquois Junior High School.

As the train approached the crossing, one of the children darted in front of it, Warren said the parent told her.

Warren said the parent hoped the district "would go over safety issues" for the children.

"It would be a good idea for all of our schools to entertain a safety program such as that," Board President F. Daniel Fletcher said.
