School Board Grants Tenure to More Than 60 Educators

The Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 board awarded tenure status to more than 60 teachers who successfully completed two full school years in their positions.

As a result of receiving tenure status, the teachers are accorded rights such as exemption from the annual reduction in force honorable discharges the board makes at the close of each school year.

The board of education annually releases teachers and hires them back according to its enrollment projections for the upcoming school year.

The practice is common among area school systems.

District 214 to handle

District 21's investments

The District 21 board also approved the intergovernmental agreement with Northwest Suburban High School District 214 for the handling of its investments.

Under the agreement, District 214 would make investments for District 21 and the other school systems that had their investments handled by the Wheeling Township School Board of Trustees.

The District 21 board also named Finance Director Dan Cash as its treasurer for a two-year period under the intergovernmental agreement. …
