Board Weighs Bids on Computer Equipment, Furniture

Elgin Area Unit District 46 will buy more than a $1.5 million in computer equipment and nearly $125,000 in new school furniture if the school board approves the purchases at its May 6 meeting.

Board members considered the bids at their meeting Monday.

The district wants to buy $1.4 million worth of Hewlett-Packard computers from MicroAccess of Skokie and $164,236 of printers from CIC Systems Inc. of Chicago.

The purchases are part of the school system's efforts to improve technology in its classrooms.

The board also is mulling contracts for furniture, most of which will be used for two elementary schools in Carol Stream and South Elgin that will open this fall.

The district has recommended the board agree to buy library shelves for the new Spring Trail and Fox Meadow elementary schools for $26,100 from Lowery-McDonnell of Skokie.

Similarly, virtually all of the furniture included in a proposed $118,602.30 contract with Wrona Brothers Inc. of Elgin will be for Spring Trail and Fox Meadow schools, which are now under construction. …
