Dist. 46 May Give Firm More Work

Burnidge Cassell Associates, the architectural firm that has designed the first three new schools of Elgin Area Unit District 46's construction plan, is up for more work in the school system.

District officials have recommended the Elgin firm be hired to design a new grade school planned for the Valley View neighborhood on Elgin's west side. The firm already is working on two elementary schools and a new high school in the district's $172.8 million building plan.

Administrators also want Burnidge Cassell to make plans for additions to Independence Elementary School in Bartlett and Huff Elementary School in Elgin.

If the school board agrees to hire the firm at its May 6 meeting, the district will pay Burnidge Cassell 4.9 percent of the $5.8 million cost to build the Valley View school.

The firm would get about 8.5 percent of the cost of the Huff and Independence additions, plus $45,640 in on-site observation fees.

Burnidge Cassell would oversee the complete renovation of Huff, plus additions there and early childhood centers at both Independence and Huff. …
