Glendale Heights' Police Chief Asks for 4 Additional Officers

Glendale Heights Police Chief Edward Dennis wants two more officers patrolling village streets next fall.

Village trustees did not question the need for additional officers Thursday night during a review of the village's budget proposed for the fiscal year that began May 1.

However, formal approval of the additional officers won't be granted until trustees vote on an ordinance outlining spending for this fiscal year. Village Administrator Jim Sevcik said the appropriation ordinance most likely will be approved next month.

Dennis said he needs two more officers because he has pulled several officers from assignments in patrol and investigation. Those officers are working in the newly created community-oriented policing unit and in a tactical unit that specializes in fighting gang activity.

The two additional officers will be used to beef up the ranks in patrol and investigation, Dennis said.

He included $42,000 in his budget request to cover salaries for the two officers, who would be hired in September. …
