College to Highlight Women's History

Female students and faculty members at Elgin Community College will share their stories this month to celebrate the contributions of women throughout the world.

As part of women's history month, the college will offer several programs including informational displays, guest speakers and book discussions.

"We're hoping to give people an appreciation of the many different things that women have to offer," said Kelli Sinclair, sponsor of the United Students of All Cultures Club. "We'd like to let people know that we've come a long way, but we still have a long way to go."

On Friday, the club will sell carnations to celebrate International Women's Day. Then, Tuesday, student members will have a panel discussion from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in which they will discuss the differences of life as a woman in the U.S. compared to their respective countries. The event will take place in the student resource center.

Then on Wednesday, Barb Dohrman, director of instructional technology, will share her experiences from the International Women's Conference she attended in Beijing, China, last summer. …
