Glenbard North Blanks West Chicago

Now comes the easy part for Glenbard North.

The Panthers evened their record in the DuPage Valley Conference Thursday night by blanking West Chicago 3-0 in Carol Stream.

The victory put Glenbard North at 3-3 in the DVC, just behind Wheaton North (3-2 DVC). If the Panthers win their final conference game of the season next Thursday, and if the Falcons lose one of their two remaining conference matches, the teams will be tied for the coveted fourth-place position.

Of course, there's one small problem. Glenbard North plays perennial DVC power Naperville North next Thursday, and the Panthers have never beaten the Huskies in nine tries.

The one advantage, however, is that the Panthers will have the home-field advantage against the Huskies. That means a narrow field to help Glenbard North contain Naperville North a little better.

But no matter how you look at the matchup, it'll take a huge effort on the part of the Panthers to end the season in the top half of the DVC for the second straight season.

"The narrow field will be to our advantage," said Glenbard North coach Jim Chevalier. "I think we can pull it off if we can absorb the shock of their offense."

Against West Chicago (6-9-1, 1-5 DVC), Glenbard North (7-4-1) withstood some early pressure and steadily began to dominate the match. …
