Citizens group backs District 87 candidates

Three school board incumbents and one newcomer have received the endorsements of a new citizens' group in Glenbard High School District 87. Stephen Blount of Wheaton is the only one of five newcomers in the nine-person Glenbard race to draw favor from Keeping Excellence in Education the Priority. It noted his 12 years of school board experience in Glen Ellyn Elementary District 89. Members also endorsed incumbents David Brown of Lombard, Lois Hince of Carol Stream and Sandy Pihos of Glen Ellyn.

History month speaker to talk at Harper

Media activist and former model Ann J. Simonton will discuss what she says is the commercial media's bias against women in her presentation "Sex, Power and the Media," scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the theater, Room J143, of the Business and Social Science Center of Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine. Simonton's appearance is part of the college's Women's History Month. War Dog Committee to meet this month

Volunteers are still being sought to help with a variety of tasks for the upcoming unveiling of Streamwood's War Dog Memorial. The unveiling will be on Memorial Day. The organizing committee will meet at 7 p.m. March 26. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 17. Both meetings are in the meeting room at village hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road.

School gyms open during school break
