Key Water Treatment Works Opened; FELINDRE

THE largest water treatment works in the country was opened yesterday by Gower MP Martin Caton.

Following a pounds 16.6m investment by Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, the works at Felindre, near Swansea, which supplies more than 200 million litres of water daily, has been modernised and extended to provide drinking water for 350,000 people.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water managing director Mike Brooker said, "This works will supply our customers from Swansea and also as far as Bridgend and Llanelli, with the highest quality drinking water. We are using a new generation of equipment to treat water to ensure that it is of a very high standard "It is the first major project completion in the current five year programme, during which we will invest pounds 1.2bn. That is pounds 1,000 for every one of our customers and far exceeds the amount we receive in charges from the average domestic bill."

Mr Caton said the investment made a crucial contribution to an essential service in Swansea and the surrounding area. "It ensures not only a quality service to customers, but that we have the most modern infrastructure in place to support future economic growth, " he said. …
