THE Cardiff Centre for Multidisciplinary Microtechnology, located within Cardiff University, has world-class expertise in optoelectronics, high frequency electronics, micromechanical systems and bio-photonics.

All activities utilise the device processing facilities of the centre's clean room, which is a unique university facility in Wales.

Using its established optoelectronics expertise, the Centre is able to provide key enabling technologies for a wide range of industrial developments in communications, data storage, manufacturing and research information.

Aims THE Centre has a strong track record in both academic research and industrial collaboration. Its objectives are to:

Provide support for industry across a range of micro-technologies and device physics related to optoelectronics, electronics and bio-photonics;

Be pro-active in the transfer of novel technologies to a range of industry sectors;

Provide training for industry through bespoke courses, student placements, degree course modules and collaborative projects.

As part of its strategy to contribute to long-term economic development, the Centre is broadening its work in hybrid materials and bio-photonics.

Expertise THE Centre combines the relevant resources of the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Cardiff School of Engineering. A distinctive feature is the wide range of activities covered in:
