Harper's Approves Hiring of New Vice President Academic Affairs Administrator Skold Comes from Washington State

Harper College will welcome a new administrator to its top echelon in February.

The board of trustees this week approved the hiring of Margaret Skold as vice president of academic affairs.

Skold comes to Harper from Centralia College in Washington state, where she has served as vice president of instruction and chief academic officer since 1994.

Skold, who holds a doctorate in community college administration from the University of Iowa, has been credited with expanding the computer science and technology, criminal justice and anthropology programs at Centralia.

Prior to that, she served as an administrator at Hawkeye Community College in Iowa.

Skold was not available in person for comment Tuesday night because she still resides in Washington.

In a written statement she said: "I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Harper, which is truly a cutting edge institution."

To fill this top-level vacancy, Harper placed advertisements in several publications, including those that target minority populations, and tapped the services of Pauly Group, a search firm from Springfield. …
