Blues Hope to Build on Season-Ending Hot Streak

ST. LOUIS - The team that has the best regular season doesn't always win the Stanley Cup.

The St. Louis Blues can speak to that from first-hand experience. Two years ago, they won the President's Trophy only to be upset by San Jose in the first round.

Flash forward to this season and the Blues are entering their playoff series against the Blackhawks coming off a season in which they struggled for more than five months before finally getting their act together.

At one point not too long ago, the Blues woke up one morning eighth in the Western Conference and in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in 23 years. That was before a 6-1-0 closing kick lifted them into fourth and earned the Blues home ice.

"We kept trying our options, mixing up personnel, trying to find a line to catch fire," coach Joel Quenneville said. "We could never sustain much of anything this year, be it from game to game or over a period of games. …
