A priest who served at five parishes in DuPage County before moving to California is being investigated for allegations he abused a teenage boy in 1983, the Joliet Diocese said Wednesday.

The Joliet Diocese said the Rev. Anthony J. Ross has been placed on administrative leave by Bishop Daniel Walsh of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa, Calif., where Ross lives.

However, a spokeswoman for the Santa Rosa Diocese, Dierdre Frontczak, said Ross has not been put on administrative leave. Ross has been in Santa Rosa since 1993.

This is the fourth time this month the Joliet Diocese has said one of its current or former priests has been relieved of his duties after allegations of long-ago sexual misconduct have surfaced.

The Joliet Diocese said in a press release that Ross served in the following parishes:

-St. John the Baptist in Winfield,

-St. Peter in Itasca,

-Sacred Heart in Lombard,

-St. Isidore in Bloomingdale,

-St. Charles Borromeo in Bensenville, as well as the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet.

Ross served at the Bensenville church from 1990 to 1992 and rarely was involved in activities with children, said one parishioner.

Ross served at the Joliet church in the 1970s. Other background on Ross' years in DuPage County could not be determined Wednesday evening. …
