Carmel's Magazine Has the Write Stuff

Carmel High School's in-house magazine, Harbinger, received an honor rating of "All-American" by the National Scholastic Press Association.

The association helps students and teachers improve their school publications. Its intent is to help students become better reporters, writers, editors, photographers, designers and desktop publishers.

Harbinger is a collection of literature and art published annually by the school.

All selections are the original work of students. This year marks the magazine's 25th anniversary issue.

Scholarships committee chosen: Students residing in the 61st Legislative District applying for eight General Assembly scholarships for the 2002-2003 academic year will know by month-end whether they make the cut.

Recipients will be chosen by a selection committee made up of community volunteers from throughout the district.

After thorough review of applications, the committee recommends these eight students and two alternates for the scholarships.

This year's General Assembly Scholarship Committee members are: Laura Beltchenko, Doris Bottimer, Jane Curtis, Tom Iskalis, Joyce Jeffries, Brian Tischendorf, Chuck Willms, and Lisa Wilson.

The committee will meet in mid-April to make their selections and recipients will be announced at the end of April.

Senior lauded for dancing: Carmel High School senior Kevin Horton, a champion Irish step dancer who is ranked second in North America, placed fifth in the World Championships of Irish Dance last month in Glasgow, Scotland. …
