JUDGE IS SUSPENDED IN CHILD PORN PROBE; Home Raided by Gardai

A JUDGE whose home was raided during a nationwide crackdown on child porn has been withdrawn from the Bench.

The decision was made at the highest level after the dawn swoop by detectives on Monday.

A source said: "This is a huge embarrassment for the legal profession.

"This man was a leading lawyer before being called to the Bench."

The homes of a director of a hi-tech company, a government lawyer, a head teacher, a choir master and a librarian were also raided.

They are among dozens of people being investigated after the swoops on 100 homes.

Computer equipment, discs and files were seized during Operation Amethyst which involved 500 Gardai.

The company director allegedly spent EUR15,000 downloading child pornography images from the internet.

A source said: "We believe the company boss spent most of his free time using his credit card to gain access to hardcore child pornography.

"He had a credit card limit of EUR25,000 and we think he spent a fortune downloading child porn."

Yesterday's Daily Mirror told how upmarket Ballymaloe cookery school, run by TV chef Darina Allen and husband Tim, was also raided by Gardai.

When asked to comment on what had happened, Mrs Allen was said to have been "shocked". …
