A SOUTH Warwickshire councillor has quit after being cautioned by police for downloading child pornography from the internet.

Christopher Pilkington resigned his seat as Tory member for Vale of the Red Horse on Stratford District Council last week, despite only being re-elected to his seat in May.

He said it was because of other work commitments.

His resignation could cost his group control of the council.

Mr Pilkington, aged 38, of Badgers Lane, Lower Tysoe, works at NFU Mutual's Stratford headquarters and is a deputy churchwarden.

He claims to have no idea how the images came to be on his computer, but he has accepted a caution from Warwickshire police and has registered with the Sex Offenders' Register.

Mr Pilkington had been a councillor since 1999 and was chairman of corporate services on the council.

The indecent pictures were found after his computer was looked at by council IT staff.

Mr Pilkington said he didn't know the offending images were on the computer.

He said he had received a lot of e-mails from locations he didn't know, which he thought he had deleted. …
