AFP, PNP Get Palawan Poll duty.(Main News)

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has deputized the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and other law enforcement agencies for poll duties in the Sept. 7 recall election for Mayor Dennis Socrates of Puerto Princesa City.

The Comelec, headed by Chairman Benjamin S. Abalos Sr., directed the AFP and the PNP to provide security to polling places, members of the board of election inspectors (BEIs), and to make available certain facilities such as land, air, and water-craft, communications system and other equipment in connection with the delivery and retrieval of election documents, supplies, forms, paraphernalia and equipment.

The AFP and PNP were also asked to assist the Comelec in implementing more effectively election laws and/or rules and regulations, particularly the laws governing the prohibition against policemen and provincial guard acting as bodyguards or security guards, the use of armored vehicles and air or water-craft and the prohibition on the carrying of firearms and other deadly weapos outside residence or place of business.

The Comelec ordered the PNP and AFP to effect no changes, during the election period in Puerto Princesa City, in the assignment of city and station police commanders. …
