OEM Certification for Local Auto Parts Makers to Boost EU exports.(Business)

The government is strengthening its foothold of the European Union market for the export of Philippine auto parts and components through the certification of local parts makers as original equipment manufacturers (OEM).

Strengthening the EU market is part of the market expansion and product diversification strategies set in the Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP), approved by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last June.

The PEDP is the blueprint of the exports sector. It spells out the export industrys basic framework, planning process, global market environment, commercial access, opportunities, targets and strategies.

In order to win a bigger share of the lucrative auto market, Trade and Industry Secretary Manuel A. Roxas II said the government is further strengthening the industry matching Philippine automotive parts and components manufacturing companies with overseas motor vehicle companies in need of auto parts and components.

Under the auto export strategy for the EU, DTIs Bureau of Export Trade Promotion and the Foreign Trade Service Corps are coordinating with the CBINetherlands Integrated Promotion Program for Mobile Equipment, an EU-based consulting company involved in the promotion of imports from developing countries such as the Philippines.

The program aims to assist producers and exporters of parts and components for automobiles, trucks, trailers, tractors to enter the OEM and after markets in Western Europe. …
